There are, granted, plenty of reasons to be wary or resentful of #threads but let's frame it like this:

A mainstream platform integrating with ActivityPub giving us all a conscious choice to follow the people we know and love on said platform is important. Many journalists, public figures, corporate entities, etc. that avoided a jump to Mastodon due to reach, difficulty of onboarding, or fragmented governance now finally have a place to go where we can actually see their work.

@MarkZimmerman Yah I mostly agree, it’ll be a good thing for ActivityPub overall. The push to block it preemptively is more a sign of Mastodon’s restrictive (and somewhat elitist) social standards. If the fediverse is to succeed we can’t be a bunch of NIMBYs

@devindra The Verge's team frames it both in the context of "Eternal September" and Google's consolidation of email and web standards (IE: Blink)

Which all makes sense, but idk how much that actually applies with ActivityPub, and for the most part what I see is the same kneejerk that many people in the open-source community have with corporate adoption despite so many open source projects being partially or fully supported by these entities.
