Thread: Introducing Anax: a long weekend project I hacked together. It's a map making tool using the Pleiades dataset (using a data-dump provided by @ryanfb https://github.com/ryanfb/pleiades-geojson), check it out here:

You can search the entire Pleiades catalog and add points to the map, and then rename them as needed (including unicode glyphs like cuneiform). All of your changes are saved in the URL so you can copy/share/save that URL as you need.
The app is programmed with
VueJS
and is quite ugly at the moment... I'll work on improving it in time. For now you can submit bugs/feature requests here: https://github.com/willismonroe/anax/issues

I'd like to add custom marker icons (right now it uses the unicode square glyph □), also the fonts could probably be resized. You'll notice that in the Github issues page there are a number of 'enhancements', feel free to have a crack at one if you feel inclined.
Any map you create is yours to use w/ attribution. All the data is CC-licensed and the output of the mapping tool is likewise licensed so feel free to use it in presentations and publications. This is a testament to the great work the Pleiades team has done and open-access data.
I didn't spend the whole weekend inside hacking on this project... I also took our boat out and went crabbing in English Bay. Caught three Dungeness crabs (not pictured) and boiled them on the beach during our Canada Day bbq. The boat is a
Chesapeake Light Craft
designed Northeaster Dory.
