I AM A SMALL BIRD AND I HAVE OPINIONS
@scalzi Oiseau-nly natural given the ruffled feathers of the past weekend.
@jaymerryfield OMG a new French English pun to send to my kid at French camp!
@Birchduck Glad to be of service! I spent more time than entirely necessary trying to imagine a pun using oiseau. No chouette off of my brow!
@scalzi The resemblance is uncanny!
@scalzi In Singapore, the Asian Koel has many loud opinions and likes to express them early in the morning. 🙂
@scalzi Ah yes, the wren, nature's oversensitive car alarm
@Sedunker @scalzi we call it the terror wren 😂 🦅
@scalzi They can be mean little buggers to other cavity nesters, but I have to almost forgive them when I hear them singing.
@scalzi And you are entitled to all of them! 😄 😍 ❤️
@scalzi Oh, Marsh Wrens. Tiny birbs with great big voices!
@npdemers @scalzi Marsh Wren, Marsh Wren, Marsh Wren!

@scalzi

Which small bird? I have a lot of small birds at my feeders and they all seem to have opinions.

I'm thinking Song Sparrow?

@btrwkart @scalzi

Not a sparrow, wrong kind of bill. That’s a wren, not positive which. I think it’s a house wren, but not positive.

@ravensrkewl @btrwkart @scalzi definitely not Pacific Wren or Bewick's Wren; the only other one I've seen personally is Marsh Wren, and it's pretty close so that's what I pegged it as.

But it's more likely a House Wren.

@scalzi I'm convinced that birds, like people, often speak despite having nothing to say.
@andywardlaw @scalzi but birds don't get rate-limited when they tweet ^__~
@AlWodz @scalzi Ah yes, this is an illustration of that classic fable, where there are two wolves fighting inside a river, and the one that wins is the one you feed. But then the rabbit wants to cross the river on the wolf’s back, but the wolf is hesitant, because they are afraid the rabbit will still them. The rabbit says that if they sting them, they will both drown, and that would be silly, so the wolf accepts… but then, mid-way across the river, the rabbit stings the wolf anyway! Because it is in a rabbit’s nature to sting! The wolf is so pissed off, they eat the rabbit, and that helps them win the fight with the other wolf.

I believe the moral of the story was “fuck rabbits, wolves are awesome” or something like that. 🧐
@scalzi pretty sure I have that bird in my neighborhood too.
@scalzi about that post no doubt.
@scalzi hello small bird. 🐦

@scalzi They're just saying they like that post.

🥁 (sorry, couldn't resist the dad joke)
That is a great pic btw

@scalzi
🥥 Mad propz, Scalzi, for the time and effort you put into crafting the #AltText for this house wren photo. 🥥
@scalzi careful, Elon’ll be right around the corner
@scalzi ...fine. The only opinions I now stan are proposed by tiny birds. This is acceptable to me. Have a blueberry muffin, teeny chirp factory.
@scalzi This is definitely a Bente-bird as drawn by @BenteliciousArt
@scalzi I personally identify with this small bird.
@scalzi oh, it is me in bird form.

Bird: Do re me fa so la ti do. A sparrow alight upon a tree branch. But this is no ordinary sparrow! This is a song sparrow! Swaying gently in the breeze, he prepares to burst forth in rapturous melody! On top of spagetti! All covered with cheeeese, I lost my poor meeeeatball, when.....
