I deleted my old Twitter account after the attempt by Twitter to "own" Canada's public broadcaster by making malicious edits to its Twitter profile back in the spring of 2023. That was the final straw.

I don't fully understand Mastodon yet and may not ever, but I'm going to attempt to keep up with breaking news and incisive commentary from here. #twittermigration

@calesullivan Welcome! There is a learning curve, but once you get past that I really think you will like it here. Those of us who came here back when Elon bought the bird app that he killed & is now setting on fire are more than happy to help you.
@calesullivan I'm going through the same thing!
@calesullivan Welcome to Mastodon! The big difference here is that you have to follow a good number of interesting accounts to have a lively TL. Celebrities are rare, most are still stuck in Elon's hell. I follow some hashtags as well.
@calesullivan wait what? Twitter edited a profile that wasn’t their own?
Musk labels CBC “69% Government-funded” as more news outlets quit Twitter – Ars Technica

@calesullivan oh yes I remember that… 🤦
@calesullivan I hadn't heard of that one!
@tkk13909 So Elon Musk got into a spat with NPR, CBC, and other public media entities over labeling them as government media. This categorized them the same as state outlets in authoritarian regimes which is a false equivalency. When CBC pushed back that their funding was <70% from Canada’s treasury, he changed their profile to read “69% government funded.” 🙄https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/04/musk-feuds-with-another-public-broadcaster-labels-cbc-69-government-funded/amp/
