The media decides who the villains or the heroes are arbitrarily and turn the machinery of the state against them.

We see this play out with conservative media creating a moral panic around LGBTQ people and states passing repressive laws.

We see this in tech with Apple getting a pass on China.

@joshledgard you described the same phenomenon with different words. Nothing brings people together like a common enemy.

The chooses who that enemy is in a lot of contexts.

@carnage4life I don’t disagree, the subtle difference was “the media decides” vs “shitty deplorables lead the media”. See Fox News realizing they need to change the lie to stop the bleeding to newsmax. The viewers led them.
