To anyone thinking about joining BlueSky, especially artists: everything you post is sent to a third party for AI labeling.

BlueSky uses AI to label content for moderation, and to do that they use a company called https://thehive.ai. If you look through their privacy policy, you will see that they can use content sent to them to train models for all their services, which include generative AI for both text and images.

@FluffyDeveloper I joined honestly just to follow activist, but yeah the centeralized stuff is annyoing. I honestly want to see what federation will bring.
@skymtf Yeah, the fact that they haven't yet opened to other instances is really crappy.
@FluffyDeveloper they are testing federation in a sandbox at the moment. I am guessing it will come somepoint this year. Keep in mind it took mastodon a bit to add federation
@FluffyDeveloper like mastodon is not new by any means and has existed for a good while now
@skymtf Absolutely, but the reality right now is that there is no federation for the AT protocol, and they are not being transparent as to how they use the services of this ai company.
@FluffyDeveloper yeah 100%, also keep in mind bsky is backed by the same tech bros who backed Twitter and Nostr

@skymtf Oh I know, BlueSky for me is just a no on all fronts unless new instances pop up.

Alas, it would be really hard to ban the original instance and its AI crap, because by the time they open up the protocol (if they ever do), it will be the one with most users :/

@FluffyDeveloper that's debatable I have been on there and there is two camps, OMG this is so much better than mastodon, and the part that has been victims of racism on the platform
@skymtf Every social media trying to avoid moderation eventually discovers the “Nazi bar” anecdote is very real.
