I hope everyone is safe in #France. Guardian live blog is reporting continuing unrest in Marseilles and other places. It looks increasingly chaotic. Does anyone have first hand experience or is in touch with friends/relatives? How are people coping? How widespread is the rioting?
@JosephineCorcoran outside the effected areas in a few cities, everything is normal. There has been talk of events being cancelled but thankfully this hasn't happened except in places where riots are going on.
@Sarahw Thanks for replying. It’s hard to find accurate information. The Guardian live blog is saying Saturday night was quieter. It’s also hard to understand how widespread the riots are.
@JosephineCorcoran @Sarahw Marseillr and Paris were still pretty hectic last night from what I can see. If you're not in the thick of it you wouldn't notice much difference.
@PetaMorton @Sarahw are you both in France?
@JosephineCorcoran @Sarahw I am, yes. Neighbours tell me it kicked off in Saint Brieuc and Brest Last night.
@PetaMorton @JosephineCorcoran gilly, I'd heard about Brest but not Saint brieuc which is pretty small. Will ask son what is happening in Rennes where he lives.
@PetaMorton @JosephineCorcoran have spoken to son who says there are riots in Rennes but fairly normal, apparently not too much of the vandalism and looting going on in some places. The Bretons generally know how to protest and don't mess about.
@Sarahw @JosephineCorcoran Hello 'neighbour'. My daughter lives in Rennes too, not far from Sainte Anne, so she's been in the thick of all the recent protests. It hasn't been too bad in the centre over the weekend.
@Sarahw @JosephineCorcoran It just goes to show how dependent we've become on getting real-time information from platforms that can be easily destabilised or manipulated by one or two key people/organisations.
@PetaMorton @Sarahw True. Trying to make a concerted effort not to do this but I’m hindered by subscription costs.
