Working on Sundays in July brings back memories as a lowly copy aide at WaPo (1996-ish), when I frequently worked the weekend shift sorting mail/faxes, etc. On Sundays during the summer, Bob Woodward was usually the de facto editor-in-chief of the newsroom, and each week he would send me or one of the other copy aides w/ a fistful of cash to take a cab to Ben & Jerry's and buy dozens of pints of ice cream for everyone in the newsroom.

He called it Bob Woodward's Ice Cream Sunday. To my mind, the cab part was always the fatal flaw, because the shitty DC cab's AC never worked and half the pints were usually a mess by the time they made it back.

Needless to say, when I was the one responsible for fetching the ice cream, the selection was over-represented with New York Super Fudge Chunk!

@briankrebs Thanks for sharing, Brian.

@briankrebs ah, the glory days of unregulated zone-fare DC cabs

@briankrebs The One True Flavor
@briankrebs Coffee Heath Bar held the title until they swapped out Heath
@JosephMenn That's pretty good, too. I can't keep ice cream in the house anymore. Also, now that I'm officially an old fart, that's exactly what comes out when I eat ice cream now :)
