the 4 way stop is without a doubt the worst traffic pattern ever devised
"there's too many accidents at this intersection, people just aren't paying attention to cross traffic, what can we do?"
genius: "lets make them keep track of three directions of traffic so they can determine the right of way by timing the precise moment all the other cars came to a stop and hope they all make the same conclusion"
