Some of our new users that joined last night already have close to 100 followers. They've been posting art with alt text (this is important as so many folk won't boost any media without alt text), using good hashtags (hashtags are really important for finding and following relevant content), interacting with people, following people, etc.

There are no algorithms on fedi, and what you get out of the community depends on what you put into it.

Make an effort.

(I know it's not about the numbers - but a strong start is a great incentive to actually stick around here, in a community and platform that is far healthier than Big Social Media.)

@Curator I give new users what I call the 5-5-5 Challenge

It's simple and they do it every day for five days (or over 7 days) and do three things every day.

1. Post five toots (new posts and/or replies)

2. Boost five toots

3. Follow five people

At the end, new users will have a total of 50 toots in their profile and will follow 25 people to help fill out their feed. It also prompts the habit of discovery that's necessary to thrive here.

@Curator I second that, make an effort!
@Curator
So... I was actually reporting a technical issue, not complaining about my follower count or whatever you think I haven't made an effort on.
@KarenBJones this wasn't targeted at you? It's a general post for people who are new here arriving from soc med platforms where they're served content
@Curator
Ah. Sorry. Popped up on my notifications just after I reported an issue. I was confused.
