80 years ago today, Willem Arondeus was executed by Nazis after he bravely bombed a building to destroy 800,000 identity cards.

He was an openly-gay Dutch artist who forged documents for Jewish people.

His last words were "Tell people that homosexuals are not cowards."

"In 1986 Yad Vashem recognized Arondeus as Righteous Among the Nations.

Because of his sexual orientation, Willemโ€™s story was omitted from Dutch history books. Only in the last 20 years has his courage become widely known."

He firebombed the Public Record Office.

@SimpleRobC @davenewworld_2 The same happened with communists: their important role in the war was neglected for decennia.
@davenewworld_2 I learned about Arondeus at the amazing Dutch Resistance museum in Amsterdam. For anyone planning a visit, it is not to be missed.

What a great memory to keep alive. Thanks.
