Hollow Knight White Palace finally completed - Lemmy.world

So I posted recently about something with Hollow Knight and how I was too fat fingered to do the white palace Well before I wrote that I got as far as the room that has the secret wall to the Path of Pain. I resigned myself after going at the normal way it for hours and getting stuck there. After writing , I tried to have a go at it again and reading guides to what to do, I finally got through it after an embarrasing amount of hours… now I know it is a skill issue I have with platformers and I was hating myself the whole way through while using a keyboard. I hated doing it, felt like the game was going to break me but I carried on cursing the game for every inch of progress I made. I can acknowledge that the White Palace was well made ( although the saws and spear mechanisms will probably give me nightmares) , felt a bit overtuned on the timings, but again what do I know I am horrible with platforming in general. If the normal white palace gave me this much trouble, then I will probably get aneurysms trying to do the path of pain and give respect to those that have will to do it I don’t wish to discourage anyone from playing the game though, my embarrasing amount of hours I put into completing the White Place is more an effect of me literally brute forcing my brain to get timings right and then playing a section at a time that the many sections on an obstacle becomes one set piece action when I stop thinking and let muscle memory take over

it’s a single player game, nothing is embarrassing about how long it takes to complete

It feels embarrasing when reading of people doing it in 30 minutes to an hour and I was sitting with it for probably about 8- 12 hours total maybe more. I know speed running achievements are definitely out of the question 😂 I am almost at 90 hours and at about 97% complete out of 112% I think.

If nothing else Hollow Knight is good value for those that are stubbornly persistent and don’t mind having the game force you to learnt its skill set.

Great Australian game.
I’m getting a bit older and have mild arthritis and being forced to play games “as developers intended” really grinds my gears. I’m stuck someway through Hollow Knight and doubt I’ll ever go back to it. Some of us are already playing things on hard mode!
That’s perfectly acceptable and understable, there is tools to tweak the experience if it comes to that. From what I have played so far, it is a game that has a show, don’t tell story and is pretty interesting and if it impedes your enjoyment and because it is singleplayer, that doesn’t affect others, then enjoy it how you want to.
Unfortunately I played it on console… Either Switch or Xbox, but I see it’s on sale on Steam at the moment, so maybe I’ll give it a go on PC and can always fall back on some mods if need be. Thanks.

Just randomly Googled information

steamcommunity.com/app/…/2568690592363454799/?l=h…

Not sure why it brought up hungarian, oh well

Not sure how up to date it is but seems to provide information to get one started with modding the game

If you can’t get that page

docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/…/mobilebasic

And just need to install the mod manager to use it

There's a Mod to make Hollow Knight easier for newer players. :: Hollow Knight Általános témák

So, for all newer players / people finding the game to be too difficult: There's a Mod to make Hollow Knight easier, called "EasyMode". The EasyMode Mod does the following: (info taken from ReadMe) - All charm costs are reduced by 1. - Sitting at a bench gives 2 free lifeblood masks. - Nail damage is increased, using the formula dmg = 8 + 5 * upgrades. (instead of dmg = 5 + 4 * upgrades) - Soul collection is increased by 6 per nail hit.
