The birdsite gets more grim every day. And yet I’m not quite so sold on mastodon - maybe i just need to keep building my friend network here 🤔
@phoebe Check out the federated timeline at different times of day for a/cs to follow.
@phoebe post an introduction post and use loads of hashtags for your different interests. Then follow as many interesting people as you can - it’s better to follow lots of people here. You can also follow hashtags - the more people and hashtags you follow the more full your feed will be.
@godlessmom it’s less about filling my feed as it is really rebuilding the network - not everyone I follow from the other site is here. Good point on hashtags though, I’ll definitely try to include them more in my own toots

@phoebe You might try adding hashtags to your interests in your profile so that likeminded folks can find you.

And if you like Airedale terriers, you might also watch the hashtag DogsOfMastodon for other dog lovers.

Ditto the hashtag for piano -- add it to your profile, add it to posts with piano content, but follow some of the tags by searching the piano hashtag for music genres you enjoy.

Good luck and welcome to Mastodon!

@femme_mal thanks! Someone else mentioned hashtags and I think I have LinkedIn angst for including too many. I will definitely try to include more and get used to it here!

@phoebe It's a very different world here because search doesn't work the same way as it does in other platforms. It's both good and bad -- good that search prevents trolls from hunting down and harassing folks, bad because it makes it difficult to find likeminded people. Hashtags for now are the best answer.

And do poke around in the federated and local streams until you have found and followed enough new friends for your feed. 🙂

@femme_mal Thanks so much. Social networks requiring mental paradigm shifts is tough - they’re meant to be a form of relaxation after all. I am definitely impressed at the fediverse’s community though! People are much nicer, generally speaking
@phoebe hi, welcome here! You needn’t be afraid to use a photo here. Don’t hide, it’s not the bird site.
