Pour one out for the dozen remaining Twitter engineers, chained to their H1-B visas, forced to spend their 4-day weekend implementing and then correcting for all of Elon's dumbest ideas.
@evacide They only have to hold on for another couple of weeks, before the Canadian "3-year visa to any H1-B holder in the US" kicks in on July 16th.

@maswan @evacide “As of July 16th 2023, H1-B holders in the US and their accompanying immediate family members will be eligible to apply to come to Canada. The approved applicants will receive an open work permit for up to three years, which means they can work for almost any employer in Canada.”

Huh. I thought you were kidding.

@andymoose @maswan @evacide

Yep, very different outlooks on this side of the border. I mean, the US has already done all of this effort to vet people, why throw that away?

We're importing 500k people every year and the US authorizes like 80k H1-Bs / year. So Canada can absorb that.

@andymoose @maswan @evacide That’s awesome and it’s actually good for America, too. It helps compensate for our super stupid immigration policy a little bit. Now, bright foreigners will be more likely to take up an offer for an H1B because that means they’ll have a guaranteed path to Canada even if they can’t land a permanent status in the US.
