I hate to admit this, but it really genuinely sucks that Twitter is dead.
It's a bad site and it's bad for me, but it's a pretty critical part of the infrastructure. It's how people get news, alerts, it's how entire social circles connect. This is like I-95 shutting down.
@ToddInTheShadows yeah I 100% agree. It's also just a ton of information and history that is being lost. Same with Reddit - I didn't even *use* that site, but there's a ton of info there that just does not exist elsewhere on the internet
@ToddInTheShadows Just goes to show why leaving critical infrastructure in the hands of for-profit businesses is a bad, bad idea.
@ToddInTheShadows I honestly could not have imagined a more surreal end to Twitter than having the hell beast capping the number of times people can look at the site.
@ToddInTheShadows Raises some interesting potentials though, if people lose faith in digital infrastructure that doesn't just hurt the (corpse of) Twitter but also all the other major platforms. Wonder how people will react?
@ToddInTheShadows yeah it sucks, and I wouldn't let Elon walk with me to the grocery store
@ToddInTheShadows I’m frankly shocked that it’s taking this long to build critical mass for the exodus. Are we waiting for the Mastodon apps to get 5% more streamlined? Bluesky to come out of invite-only mode? I just want to know what it’ll take to never have to care about Musk breaking yet another part of the bird app.
