Today, after Reddit killed off third party apps and forcing me to use their crappy app instead of Apollo (by @christianselig), I start my path to a non-reddit life. Deleted my 10 year old account today.
Hopefully (or not?) some open alternative without greedy people behind the wheel will take off.

@utochin I think it’s going to be hard for any new platform to mimic the searchability of specific comment thread though. There’s a reason my search engine now auto completes any tech support question I have with “Reddit” at the end. But I’m totally on the lookout for whatever it is!

@noja yeah, agreed. And it will be hard to avoid all that mass of content/discussions for a long while, even if something else starts to gain mass.

@utochin Narwhal seemed to have found a way to keep using the api. Not really sure how/why but it’s better than the first party app.
