Apps saying goodbye to Reddit and immediately becoming fediverse apps instead - SLRPNK

Which apps are specifically turning into fediverse apps? Very curious.
I’ve been test driving android apps for lemmy for hours now and it’s been fun but I’d love to see one with a RIF UX. Any chance we can convince Andy to develop RIF for lemmy?

Sync and Boost officially are.

Infinity for Everything (Fediverse) is on GitHub.

wefwef and Memmy are starting to feel like Apollo already.

Connect seems to be inching closer to how Relay felt with each update, and Jerboa gives off RiF vibes.

People need to post about this on reddit more to perhaps encourage the other devs to do the same; might’ve worked for Boost cuz the dev didn’t originally plan to port it to Lemmy it seems

Jerboa is crashing for me on start, which isn't a great sign. I just want Boost already!

Probably because blahaj is on 0.17.4, and Jerboa only supports 0.18 and later right now.

Use wefwef or Thunder. And Connect and Liftoff are on the playstore already.

Voyager for Lemmy

Voyager is a beautiful mobile web client for Lemmy. Enjoy a seamless experience browsing the fediverse.

I have the same problem, maybe some instances need to update.

I am on liftoff right now, which does not let me post on lemmy.world but maybe it will after they update.

Jerboa is so incredibly buggy right now though, that it barely worked for me at all. I just switched to Liftoff. It also has its fair share of bugs but at least functions almost reliably.
I am on connect now and the similarities with relay is why
Would love for the Apollo app developer Christian to get on board and join the Wefwef developers to make a native app.

+1 to native app, it’s part of what made Apollo great

What do you mean by “join the Wefef developers to make a native app”

Are you saying you wish they would join forces and start or is Wefwef already on it?

I like the look of wefwef a lot, coming from Apollo but I just don’t love web apps for things like this - so a native app from them would be awesome!

With iOS 17, web apps will get more features to make them feel more native. It might be so close that it will be hard to tell the difference between a web-developed native app and a PWA. Wefwef is already really nice and it’s mere days old. I can’t wait to see where they take it.
One more thing to be excited about for 17!!
hell yeah. I want KIF or LIF
FIF -- Fediverse Is Fun :D
That would he so nice. RiF is delightful. I love it's not about bells and whistles, it was simple looking and the layout was clean and consistent. RIP RiF.
it was so snappy and unbloated. look at the official reddit app or the mobile site. what a pile of garbage
But, but Artemis is for Kbin (for now).
Agreed. I only viewed reddit through apollo; if he can shift, I’ll absolutely stay with apollo over reddit.
So when do we get our own the narwhal bacons at midnight
I’m still pretty sure whoever came up with that was a troll and was trying to get that person that was posting from the airport to embarrass himself in public
Are there any examples of this happening?
There are; I can think of one specifically. Sync for Reddit is becoming Sync for Lemmy, it's under development.
Boost for Lemmy - Apps on Google Play

Discover and join communities on Lemmy and the Fediverse

This makes me happy. I really loved Boost and was sad to see it go.
Are there any kbin apps for Android?
Artemis in closed beta. Many apps are only developed for lemmy unfortunately

Not yet, but they are on the way.

In the meantime the kbin mobile site works well as a PWA, even better if you install these scripts:
https://kbin.social/m/kbinStyles/t/27201/kbin-enhancement-script-QOL-updates-for-the-kbin-UI
https://kbin.social/m/kbinStyles/t/105421/Kbin-Usability-Pack-0-2-2-Now-with-settings

Easy to do with Fennec

kbin enhancement script: QOL updates for the kbin UI - Kbin Userstyles and Userscripts - kbin.social

Current features:...

PWA really works for me.
No API access yet IIRC, but there is @ArtemisApp being worked on.
Which apps are doing this by the way?

Sync and Boost officially are.

Really excited about Infinity for Everything! I used Infinity for Reddit and it was hands-down my favorite app. Looks like the Everything version is still pretty early. Will be watching it closely.
Do you have a link to the infinity for everything repository? I can't seem to find it

I’m using wefwef right now I’m honestly Impressed!
Same. If this has the same icon as Apollo, I could have been fooled that I was still on Reddit.
In addition to the others mentioned, someone is making an unofficial port of Slide.
Developer of RedReader also said they want to eventually support Lemmy and perhaps tildes and hacker news, even though RedReader got an exemption from the api fees for now. But as a "long-term vision", so probably not immediately.
An app is making the difference for me between Lemmy & Squabbles. Squabbles via an app is looking very much like Reddit, but Lemmy has the numbers, I believe.
Also, and this is a little vain/stupid I guess, but I hate the name and icon of Squabbles. Makes it seems like it’s a platform to argue, not be a community.
discord has left the chat
Baconreader, please become a fediverse app!
I need this so badly, after over a decade of using baconreader on Reddit my muscle memory needs a similar interface.
Dude I discovered reddit because bacon reader. Hell I didn’t even knew there was an official app. I NEED the tile scrolling,it’s such a pain to have to go back and scroll to the next post instead of just slide from one to another. Maybe we can send him an email? I know he has like a weather app or something?
I’ve used Stealth client andits’s still working on reddit, crossing my fingers
I would love a stealth lemmy client
I don’t get it, why stealth is still working?

Stealth never has had account integrations because its only a reddit viewer, and I think recently its also switched over to just web scraping old.reddit.com

Most likely this won’t work forever - just like fritter (open source twitter reader) they will patch the scraping into oblivion

Sync has announced that they are developing for Lemmy and I am so down for it.
Same. I can’t wait.
Sync is a remarkably well made app, I was delighted to see that announcement
I gotta admit that I’m a bit disappointed with the owner of Relay for Reddit as he decided to stay and turn it into a subscription model. He might have attached his cart to the wrong horse. That’s what I want to believe anyway.
It’s probably hard to give up entirely on an app you’ve been working on for so long.

Won’t all nsfw content be invisible to third-party apps?

So people aren’t paying to keep reddit alive, they’re paying to have some advertiser friendly, bot-ridden husk of reddit available outside the official app.

Those outsized API fees don’t even get you the original reddit experience, it’s disgusting.

I don’t blame the dev, but I also don’t understand his decision.

Why not take money from those who want to give?
Y’all need to help me convince the infinity for reddit app to jump ships. I don’t know how to do it, otherwise I fucking would.
They’ll jump if they want to. If it’s any consolation, the dev for Boost (my Reddit app of choice before everything went down like it did) announced that he was going to make a Boost for Lemmy after commenting that he wouldn’t. Perhaps the Infinity dev will come to a similar conclusion?
Infinity dev 200% should, I think I heard they wanted to move on to beginner level it for some reason and wonder why they even should when there are riches to be made running a free app with donations
I’m willing to donate
Live to see it. :)
