@mu @grueproof yes! This has been such a big part of the problem. This land was successfully human managed to *prevent* these mega fires for hundreds of years before we turned up and decided to "manage" it unsuccessfully by trying to completely prevent burns. Now we've spent over 100 years creating a giant tinder box that all wants to go up at once.

You really think folks was going hundreds of miles out into the wilderness in all directions to clear brush?

Yes, a HUGE area of North America was successfully managed with frequent controlled burns for the last couple thousand years. Not "trekking out into the wilderness to clear brush," as if I'm picturing some guy with a rake. Jeez. The massive controlled burns are what we put a stop to.
