Oh, the Reddit admins have come for realtesla now.
Somewhat funny. The very first permaban I issued was for someone posting Tesla themed porn. If we go the malicious compliance route, my on-and-off mod career will have come full circle.

Wondering if the Reddit admins are sockpuppeting. Shortly after we refused to reopen the sub, mod mail started getting spammed with reopen requests from a mix of long-dormant and nearly brand new accounts.

Ex: a 9 year old account with no activity within the past 4 years, or an account that's a month old and has zero posts and 1 karma.

Reddit Goes Nuclear, Removes Moderators of Subreddits That Continue to Protest

Several subreddits are allowing porn and not-safe-for-work content to protest Reddit. In response, the platform has removed entire moderator teams from the affected subreddits.

Looks like the admins are back to wiping mod teams. Head mod already said he's going to reopen, so I'll probably go ahead and open it after work. I reached out to him but he often takes days to reply.

Also, the API is still up for a moment so I'll be able to backup data and possibly the sub.

How to Download Your Reddit Data

Reddit is about to shut off public API access, which means it’s about to get harder to use—and harder to get your data out. Here’s how to grab it now.

I reopened the sub and immediately stickied a user profile backup tool & instructions.

For any of our users interested: while the API remains open, it is possible to archive your reddit data. After the API closes, your only option will be to a GDPR or CCPA/CPRA request.

And it turns out our sub made it into a reddit-wide archive a while back.

It's not everything; misses the past six months, but it should have all the rest of the sub's history.

I don't have enough disk space currently for it, though.

Edit: Whoops. I had setup the torrent incorrectly, so it was trying to download the entire archive, not just the realtesla sub.

Separate dump files for the top 20k subreddits

I've gotten a number of requests for subreddit specific dump files extracted from the monthly dumps. So I've extracted out the top twenty thousand...

With the sub open, subredditstats can see it properly again and why we got admin attention is a bit more clear. On a few metrics, realtesla was a top 500-ish sub.

I do think it's funny on the posts/comments per day, the cybertruck reveal seems to be the big spike.

Also, a bit of irony I'm the one to see about saving parts of the sub. As a mod, when I was consistent and active / before I became the AWOL mod, I spent all of my time trying to prevent it from devolving into just another circlejerk sub. Steering people towards evidence-based discussion got a whole lot of hatemail.
