We understand that defederating should always be a last resort, and individuals can certainly block communities. However, blocking alone does not prevent potential harm to vulnerable communities. After carefully reviewing the instance, reported posts, and multiple comments from the community, we have concluded that exploding-heads is not adhering to the Lemmy or Citizen Code of Conduct. Therefore, we cannot, in good faith, continue to federate with an instance that consistently promotes hate, racism, and bullying. Please don't defederate just like that. Defederation tells your users that we are not smart enough to make our decisions, and that we need the admins to make the decisions for us. I assure you that is not the case. We can block users or communities that we see problems with.

I don't want to hang with neo-nazi's. Please defederate from these asshole servers or you will turn into voat and all the non-assholes will leave. So, the opposite of what this girl is saying.

This is the typical omg freeze peaches! line we have all seen a million times before. I don't actually give a single shit about free speech. I just want a nazi free space to talk about various shit. Be voat if you want, but all the normal people will leave.

Just block them yourself. No need to force the defederation on everybody. I want to know what they are up to. And I want to argue with them whenever I want to.

Defederating from them is the same moral high ground shit we saw on Reddit. Furthermore defederating for laughable reasons (and the examples provided are weak af) is just further damaging the fediverse.

I agree, Exploding heads admin admits they allow racism, which is actually illegal, so no question they should be defederated, even if it was just for legal matters.

Racism is an ideology. An ideology is located in the minds of people. You cannot forbid people to think in a way that does not correlate with your ideas. Discrimination on the other hand (which is often based in an ideology) is illegal in most western countries.

However you see racism. The world would be a lot more boring without it. Racism is such a great topic to discuss. I myself am not racist. But I enjoy the discussions. Sometimes I am taking the standpoint of a racist, just to keep a discussion going.

Minority is also an interesting term. In Asia I would be considered a minority. And in Africa I would be become a minority as well.

I'm guessing you are white, as am I btw, and we wouldn't just be considered a minority, we would actually belong to a minority in those places.

So in those places, protection of minorities would actually protect us against discrimination.

But generally whites in those areas are richer than average, and if you are rich, you don't need as much protection against racism.

Nobody is forcing defederation on users. Users can move to another instance. If you have a hard time finding and instance that allows you to view their toxic propaganda then maybe you should join their instance.

Well I did. I already have 7 Lemmy accounts, each on a different instance. I am in leftist instances and in konservative instances. I just don’t care if the world would go full communist or fascist. I want to look at the stuff that interests me and that makes me laugh. And I do laugh at ideological stuff of any kind. This defederating is like children in the playground that argued and decided to stop talk to each other because they are uncapable to behave stoic in the face of disagreement.

I have 50+ years experience being a cis woman in this world. I have fought tooth and nail from early childhood to not be dehumanized, objectified and controlled. I'm fucking tired of having to fight all the goddamned time to simply exist unmolested. I specifically seek out spaces where I don't have to do that so I can actually relax and enjoy myself for a change. If you want to tolerate assholery, fine, go wallow with the pigs I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut. But arguing against keeping this space clear of that bullshit directly affects me, and that I care about and will push back against.

Well first off, women complaining about their life is an old and boring history. Especially considering that many people have to fight a lot harder, not because of their sex, but because of their financial circumstances.

Second: life is hard and has always been hard. Don’t expect from life not to be a fight. Everyone on this world has to fight for their right to exist in some way or another. So don’t complain about it. Fight it. If you still encounter the same problem as a 50 year old, then change your attitude.

First problem: self sexualisation. Stop wearing stuff that sexualises you. Men don’t wear stuff that sexualises them. Stop it. Life is a fight and you should dress appropriately for combat. Maybe not camouflage, but pants, closed low heel boots. Then your attitude: Fight people verbally the way you fight me. Just leave out the victim role (it makes you appear weak). Speaking about your emotions will not change them. And the last part: defend yourself physically. Carry a knife, or carry a kubotan if you don’t want to be seen with a knife.

I am half your age, but I have already known for years that you cannot escape the bullshit. (Especially since everyone believes to be right and the rest are idiots. I think so myself). You have to be ready to encounter the bullshit.

Bullshit finds you, no matter where you hide.
