We have a Swamp (evaporation) Cooler that is constantly drawing air from outside and forcing it through the ducts. I can smell it whenever someone in the neighborhood lights up their charcoal grill. In your situation I'd probably have to set up the portable emergency-use-only air conditioner and #MrMing 🐈‍⬛ and I would have to hang out in the bedroom all the time. Which would also be expensive.
