“We don’t need to invent new technology. We don’t need to spend gazillions of dollars on research and development to come up with a miracle cure. We just need to implement some commonsense policy solutions and stop prioritising car culture over everything else. We have all the answers – we just don’t have the political will to implement them.”

The car is king in the US – and pedestrian deaths are rising. Where is the outrage?

Pedestrian deaths are at a 40-year high and the number of cyclists hit by cars has increased since the pandemic. The most astounding part? These are preventable tragedies, says Arwa Mahdawi

"Political will" is under attack by the wealthiest people on the planet.

Democracy itself is under attack by moneyed oil interests.

Climate inaction was purchased.

The largest EV manufacturer was bought by the Saudis.

Meta fosters climate disinformation campaigns as American & Canadian forests burn. And droughts in Spain & Mexico end food production.

Twitter fosters vaccine malign influence campaigns as global pandemics increase with climate change.

"Why isn’t there more outrage about all this? It is astounding that we seem to have decided that the entire world should be centred around cars, and anyone without a vehicle should be treated like a second-class citizen."

Welcome to capitalism where money rules everything.

Literally like driving tanks!
@davidho NYC, especially Manhattan, threw out streetcars and ferries for subways and buses, and overdevelopment. Cars are the problem? Or spectacularly poor urban planning?

@davidho

"...we just don’t have the political will to implement them.”

That right there sums it up for the US, not just car policy but just about anything.
