Recall a time when someone came to your aid, stood up for you, showed you an unexpected kindness. Hold on to those memories, for they are dear. Strive every day to make someone else feel the way you did in that moment.

For me, the one librarian who inspired me and encouraged me to go to library school and become a librarian. She saved my life in a very dark time, and I try to repay it when I serve others.

@coachgowron My favorite way to express this in my older years is to respond “No big deal” or “We all make mistakes” when someone fucks up something that affects me. I love the surprized and relieved expressions on people’s faces.
@coachgowron consider documenting them in a journal even. Then, if life gets you down, you have proof that someone cared.

“The quality of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.”
—William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice
