Great - so Conservative news media will own every piece of corporate news media in Canada. I hope to hell that the Competition Bureau steps in and denies this merger.

We need stronger independent news sources - not more consolidation in news media.

Toronto Star owner in talks to merge with Postmedia

NordStar, Postmedia would have 50% voting stake in a new company that would control most of the combined assets of both. Toronto Star would be spun into second company controlled by NordStar.

Postmedia is 66% owned by American hedge fund and media conglomerate Chatham Asset Management.
