The Unicorns (Ukrainian queer troops) are fighting not only for the LGBTQ+ community in their own country, but for all the queer people in the entire west (and world as a matter of fact) - they break stereotypes and show extraordinary resilience by fighting for a country in which they still faced all forms of queerphobia, but which still offers them hope of a better tomorrow, as opposed to a penal colony in Siberia or a bullet to the back of a head.
Hopefully, once the war is over, Zelensky will follow up on the suggestion of reforming the constitution to allow same-sex marriage among other things (it cannot be changed during wartime for obvious reasons). If Ukraine becomes more queer-friendly after the conflict, it will further cement LGBT laws as an unquestionable part of a modern western civilization, which in part could lead to improvement of the situation in bastions of homophobia in Europe (such as my motherland 🇵🇱).
