im tempted to foster a community around a game engine i make and have a bunch of games come out for it and then suddenly and unannouncedly change it to the GPL license so that anyone who has made a game with it and wants to update the engine has to make their game's code open source

i just think it would be funny
@angel_val So what you do is play the long game and wait for a bigger studio to use it as their engine. When they inevitably shaft their player base w/ microtransactions or some bs, you pull the rug out from under them and force the game into FOSS territory upon which point the community takes over development and the shareholders cry themselves to sleep!! :)
@[email protected] that is assuming that the studio doesn't abandon the game entirely once they realize they can't update without open sourcing.. hmm
