OFCOM CONSULTATION DOCUMENT

OFCOM this week released their consultation document on the future of Amateur Radio in the UK and their proposals to move the hobby forwa...

@g0vgs Thanks for sharing - you make the point call signs are very personal - yet you don't agree we should be able to keep lower level calls?

Won't you get all the same problems you point out with recycled SK/swapped calls?

This small "administrative burden" for Ofcom would really cause significant burden for amateurs (and service providers) - I still use my 2E with Echolink etc. If I didn't, I'd still want the QRZ page to point people to my full callsign - its in hundreds of logs.

@G5DSG thanks for the comment. I just don’t see the need to use more than one. Once I got my A call, why would I keep using my B? I understand that some people may have not upgraded for some time and will have some history with the old call. I did myself. However, in my case, the A gave me HF as well, so I simply used that instead
@G5DSG as for QRZ, you can point that anywhere. It has nothing to do with what licence you hold. If you held a 2e, then you can point that page at your new callsign
@g0vgs but... the person who gets my revoked/re-issued call sign will also want the QRZ page to go with it.
@G5DSG which is what I mentioned about only 2 years. Ridiculous. It should be 10
@g0vgs I plan to still be here in 10 years :) I'd propose that if they insist on revoking old calls (they don't really have a strong case in my view) then they should be reserved for your proposed 10 years *after the associated higher level license is cancelled* (due to death / failure to renew / banning from the airwaves...).
