Follow the money: the alleged operator of the Monopoly darknet market was extradited from Austria to the US on Friday; he's due to make his initial court appearance today. The FBI said the market facilitated over $18 million in illegal drug transactions, with the operator earning a commission (typically 5%) on every sale. Investigators said they identified Milomir Desnica, 33, who's a citizen of both Croatia and Serbia, in part because the bitcoin wallet address to which vendors were told to send their commission payments was allegedly also used by the defendant to deposit bitcoins he bought from the MoonPay exchange with his personal Google Pay account. The FBI said it found the 12-word seed phrase for the bitcoin wallet in his email account.
