Quote of the day (from @pluralistic )

"We’re in the polycrisis, a widening gyre of climate emergency, inequality, infrastructure neglect, rising authoritarianism and zoonotic plagues.
But that’s not the bad part."

So what is the bad part?

THE BAD PART IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN A POSITION TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT ARE ALL TELLING YOU THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN.

@tcnicholls @pluralistic that's not the bad part either.

The bad part is the ruling elite is PLANNING those crisis.

@tcnicholls @pluralistic That strikes me as an apt summary of /what/ the world situation is today. For an interesting discussion of /how/ it got this way and always gets this way, I recommend this interview:

@tcnicholls @pluralistic or they are telling us to do things that make very little difference (recycling) because they let corporations make the laws, so they pollute and then tell us it is our fault (In the U.S. at least)
@AU3Engine @tcnicholls @pluralistic this is definitely part of it. So much plastic and we don't even have the infrastructure to recycle it. It's altering ecosystems and is showing up everywhere, but yeah, it's up to us to do something about it.
@tcnicholls @pluralistic Don't forget asset value crisis due to two decades of near-zero rates to reboot the struggling economy in the West.

I see an inverted pyramid of critical issues with an inability to address them due to partisanship & overconfidence in limited knowledge.

The people who are in a position of power are more powerful than those claiming powerlessness & self-reliance. They're intentional organized crime, a deeper explanantion getting my accounts locked/suspended both here & on Twitter, but there's enough common knowledge for accurate inference.

@tcnicholls @pluralistic I've probably said this too many times, but the oligarchs of the world for some reason want a mixture of Cyberpunk 2077, Nineteen Eighty Four, Fallout, A Handmaid's Tale, and WALL-E

Someone gaming the game theorists?
@tcnicholls @pluralistic William Gibson called it The Jackpot. Gibson is good at naming things.
@tcnicholls @pluralistic what @GreatDismal named as The Jackpot.
My addition is “The Fugue” which we are well into and I don’t mean the nice Bach type Fugue.
Conditions emulating Schizophrenia are about to become “The Norm”
