I just managed to get some more of my family onto #Signal. And it wasn't even intentional!

@Rush Yeah I know. It seems that most people just don't care that much about privacy.
@dphilosopher Even though many people don't like this solution, I always recommend leaving platforms that you don't want to be on entirely and not backing down.
I've done this when leaving whatsapp, and the contacts which cared switched, until eventually they started using it themselves.
@Rush Thanks for the encouragement. I also want to get some of my friends and family/political activist people to switch over to the fediverse. I have to Google for the fediverse FB interface. I can't remember what it's named. I think it's friend something.
@dphilosopher are you thinking of Friendica? That sounds like it'd be what you're looking for

On the Signal move, if you have an Android lying around and want people to know you're not using WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, maybe you wanna look at Watomatic to automatically let your contacts know you've moved.
If I recall, their official website is https://watomatic.app. of course it's all FOSS.
@dphilosopher it works by essentially hijacking notification access for apps in Android, by scanning for incoming notifications and automatically doing the "Reply" action with your specified text.
