A coup is underway in Russia.

Russian militia group Wagner, headed by Prigozhin, is making their way to Moscow to overthrow Putin. There is not much resistance to Wagner from Putin's low-morale Russian army.

This is similar to the army revolt in Russia at the end of WW1.

Prigozhin as president would be as bad as Putin though.

Belarus dictator Lukashenko just fled to Turkey.

Historic moment. HOWEVER, Ukraine remains in danger under Putin or Prigozhin.

"Prigozhin as president would be as bad as Putin though. "

The ex secret policemans drunken chef instead of the ex secret policeman?

One can only hope it turns into a cannibal frenzy where they all eat each other!

@MeanwhileinCanada Isn't the Wagner group literal neonazis, and up until now at least, heavily aligned with Putin?

This seems like important context... it sounds more like a far-right self-coup to maintain power despite a failing leader than an actual coup given this.

@MeanwhileinCanada yes. Very much so. In fact I suspect a Wagner group would be more effective than the Russian army against Ukraine. A Wagner takeover wouldn't be a good thing at all.
@MeanwhileinCanada ...and here I am all out of popcorn.

Far from it. No nuclear weapons were available at the time and there's no lunatic at the helm in control of them! Putin may be the modern day Hitler but he's not going to commit suicide. He may very well take the whole humanity with him if nothing is done from the inside, whatever that may be. This is a cause for great concern, not celebration!
