Some schools in Aotearoa New Zealand are moving away from #OpenPlan classrooms. Fewer headaches, less distraction, more productivity. Will open plan offices and #HotDesking follow suit? Some workers in government agencies would be keen to have less noise and distraction too

No more headaches: Schools removing open-plans to reduce distractions

Many schools are turning their back on the open-plan classroom trend which continues to divide the sector.

@Kay

Ooh don't get me started on the loss in productivity from going to an open plan with hot desking (this for a team of, until recently, one and with assigend desks for teams).

@IceNine as a part-time contractor worker, I resented the time I lost to #HotDesking at my current agency. Sometime wasted up to 30 minutes trying to find a desk with tech that connected OK. Fortunately a recent review allowed more workers to claim anchor desks for quicker work connections. So much more productive if I don't have to connect afresh and change desk and chair height

@Kay

And claims of more collaborative work are utter bollocks. I jam on headphones so I can concentrate and block the noise.

*sigh*

@Kay

It's. About. Time.

Open plan classrooms serve no one except school boards that want to save money on school construction. They're hell to teach in and to learn in. Especially for those with attention deficits.

May these wiser heads prevail!
