Idiotic things people have said to me about #COVID19 recently:
- Masks are about protecting other people and not me, so since no one cares, I choose not to wear one.
- The science on air filters is inconclusive.
- The pandemic is over and COVID is no longer a threat.
- It's mild now. I've had it twice, and it's no big deal.

Meanwhile, studies suggest our immune systems are weak, cardiovascular and diabetes risks are growing, and the case fatality rate is rising with each Omicron mutation.

@augieray

I really have to wonder if the September vaccine that pharma are LEISURELY working towards will even be effective at that point.

@augieray So much to say about this but will stick with "Agreed!"

@augieray

Ooh, here's another one:

Me: "Well, Dad, it's been rough. My spouse and my younger kid got Covid recently. Scary stuff. We treated them with Paxlovid ASAP, and isolated for days. It's resolved. Hopefully, no long Covid!"

90-year-old Dad: "They got what? They got Covid-19? What? Oh, that was the old disease! That's gone! There's the new...umm...it's a new one now, and it's not so bad. It's mild! I got it and I had just a little cold for a couple days!"

@augieray

Case fatality is rising? Even for those who are 5 or 6 times vaccinated?

@josefina A recent study demonstrated case fatality rate was rising exponentially in the omicron era. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37313287/
The Rise of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Omicron Subvariant Pathogenicity - PubMed

During the COVID-19 pandemic, variants of the Betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the etiologic agent of COVID-19 disease, progressively decreased in pathogenicity up to the Omicron strain. However, the case fatality rate has increased from Omicron through each major Omicron subvariant (BA.2/BA.4, BA …
