Checking out how to install CFW now, haven’t seen everything that can be done yet though.
Can you recommend a good resource for homebrew etc?
Apps are available as .vpk files. There is a database.

Mostly I install stuff with the app-store style browser for that repository though, not manually downloading the files.
The actual modding process is extremely streamlined nowadays.

Somewhat exhaustive but I think this is a good resource
While I do like that content creator, if you’re hacking you should use the vita.hacks.guide as even he references in the first paragraph
RGC is great about showing everything you can do once you’re done installing CFW.
Apologies for being lazy
I have a vita that ultimately stopped working, and gets stuck in a boot loop (original os, no modding/tampering done). Do you think it's hardware related? Or could I still flash a new os on that puppy.
I had a 3000 model. I bought it only because a coworker told me that it was trivially easy to install CFW and run my own local ISOs from the memory card, and a bunch of us would play pirated copies of Shinobido and Macross together on breaks.
That thing was a surprisingly capable little device. I lost mine a while back, and I honestly kinda miss it sometimes.
I modded my PS Vita so I can run Steam Link on it. Works great! It's done by using Moonshine/Sunshine.
It came out at the wrong time, but it is amazingly well designed. I'm looking at mine right now.
I like the design so much, in fact, that when it came time to buy a handheld PC I got the GPD Win4. Guess why.
Man, I used to have PSP back in the day, and I loved it.
And now, I am kinda pondering, on buying a PS Vita, for some emulation. And I think I sure will do that. Just.. gotta get money first..
