Just had someone asking why I'm so worried about Meta/Facebook's involvement in the Fediverse. Have people forgotten what they have done?

"Facebook owner Meta’s dangerous algorithms and reckless pursuit of profit substantially contributed to the atrocities perpetrated by the Myanmar military against the Rohingya people"

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2022/09/myanmar-facebooks-systems-promoted-violence-against-rohingya-meta-owes-reparations-new-report/

"Facebook ‘lets vigilantes in Ethiopia incite ethnic killing’"

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/feb/20/facebook-lets-vigilantes-in-ethiopia-incite-ethnic-killing

"Facebook must pay a record-breaking $5 billion fine as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, by far the largest penalty ever imposed on a company for violating consumers' privacy rights."

Do we want the Fediverse to be like this?

Meta/Facebook has a consistent track record of doing terrible things despite knowing they harm (and possibly kill) people. They know this is going on but they don't care: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/growth-at-any-cost-top-facebook-executive-defended-data#.yuervQD6D

The Fediverse should be shunning Meta/Facebook by any means at our disposal.

Myanmar: Facebook’s systems promoted violence against Rohingya; Meta owes reparations – new report

@FediThing We definitely neither want nor need #Meta to participate in the #fediverse. If #Meta is welcomed, I will make my exit. I've taken great pains to be free from Meta since November of 2017. I will never go back for any reason. Joining #Facebook was a regrettable decision in the first place.

You can leave/block servers that welcome them, and join/support servers that block them?
