With the madness happening at Reddit, is there a place people go for bird ID? I know I could use iNaturalist but I like the idea of a community. Can we start #whatsthisbird?
@scott eBird and Merlin are popular, I understand, but I would love it if there were a solid community of bird-identifiers on here!
@scott as a start, I'm now following the hashtag.

@scott @eheisman I came across this site while trying to figure out if the starlings were mimicking hawk sounds (they were).

Search, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Detailed information for more than 600 North American bird species, including ID help, browse by shape and taxonomy, and deeper articles.

@scott

If you go down the rabbit hole of iNaturalist, you're just going to find big tech tracking, Disney, etc. too. :(

I like a more libre way. :)

For plants, this is the most libre system I could find:

https://plantnet.org

I haven't found one without issues for birds yet.

I'd love to do this via Mastodon because I have lots of birds, but no clue about what's what. :)

@scott i'm following the hashtag now, i think this is a great idea, if anyone has birds from the eastern US i can probably help id and i know there are many others here who can id for other parts of the world as well!
