I know about several solutions, but all of them are either costly, not flexible or downright buggy.
The "best" bug was that a product did not correctly sync the exceptions of recurring events (cancelled/moved single events) or edits to the series (making it end after a certain date). The result were countless "phantom" events at MS whose Google originals had long been deleted! Nobody could trust the MS calendar anymore.
That frustrated me so much that I had to roll my own. 🙃
