next you may find out there is too much gafami even on linux and look at other non proprietary nor incumbered options
you may find out your hardware is unsafe and may look into esoteric architectures
you may find out that there is too much scraping even on the fedi and look into p2p networks possibly on the darknet i2p tor
you may find out service providers offer warrantless access to anybody and you may look into lora, packet radio and meshes that bypass providers

linux is awesome. i'm on fedora silverblue. its a very stable and solid distro and still has new package versions but wouldnt recommend it for new users because it can be complicated to use. ubuntu or regular fedora may be good to try for new users.
