Spotify tried something again.

Suddenly my shuffle was Smart Shuffle (TM) and injected songs not in my playlist, into my playlist playback queue.

They really want me to stop paying them.

@lawik that sounds like "enhanced playlist" an it's there for quite some time. I actually find it pretty useful, but it definitely should not be turned on by default...
@lawik I hear you.. But also my biggest problem is often finding new content, so I can't say I'd be fully against a separate Smart Shuffle function! Because yeah, if I just shuffle, I really do want the songs from the playlist I'm on..
@lawik Their most recent UI overhaul made it borderline unusable for editing my playlists. I can't really deal with migrating right now, but I'm seriously considering it in the near future.
I saw someone post this recently, might simplify the transition a lot: https://soundiiz.com/

@lawik They also did something great recently on the web player. I usually listen to songs on repeat and for many years they turned that mode off when I manually switched songs so I had to turn it on again each time. Now it actually stays on.

It was quite annoying and I wonder why they spent developer time to actually implement the code to turn it off when songs are switched. It makes no sense.

@lawik that sounds like enshittification to me! Although maybe I shouldn’t be one to talk since I use Pandora and hence don’t have direct control over what they play for me 😂

Although it seems like most development on Pandora has ceased which is fine for me since I really like the way it works right now.

@axelson but that was always the point of Pandora right?

I think this is very much enshittification and the social media playbook. "Welp, podcasts didn't really pan out. Here, get hooked on new music for us."

What I choose to do and my intent are a low priority.

@lawik yeah that is the point of Pandora. It’s more like a traditional radio. Which is what I like because then I don’t have to think about what songs I want to listen to. Instead I just decide they type of music (or mood) I’m aiming for.
@axelson product with opinion. Wild! I like that. Not sure that particular one is for me and thats fine :)
