The reason they failed is quite simple and perfectly illustrated by my sister. She held her wedding in a big field and bought a pair of nice blue Hunters for the occasion. They cost over £150 but a year later they were perished and leaking. Hunter fell to little more than capitalist greed - they pumped up prices while making the product progressively poorer.
