I created a #logo for arabi.gay! It's the same #mastodon logo, but I rotated the m on it's side and edited it to make the letter ع for عربي (arabi), and added the #rainbow. The background bubble-elephant-thing kinda looks like the letter م, so that almost completes the #Arabic acronym for LGBT (م.ع.).

@wardi curious about the arabic LGBT acronym, I couldnt find a wiki page about it, do you have a resource I might be able to see?

@liaizon the wiki content on this subject is pretty slim. But the acronym is well used among activists. Here's a page on مجتمع الميم https://genderiyya.xyz/wiki/%D9%85%D8%AC%D8%AA%D9%85%D8%B9_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%8A%D9%85

Most activists use م.ع as ع is for عابرين (trans, from passing), as an alternative to متحولين (literally transformers) which is imprecise and is often used as a slur. ل is also often included for لاجنسيبن، لا معياريي الجندر for asexual and non-binary. If you can read Arabic, you can check the server description for a more full description.

@wardi thanks so much this is fascinating. I tried to learn arabic for a while but only got a to a basic level of reading the script and didn't make it much farther. am super interested in language politics, especially in light of how languages can adapt to nonbinary and gender neutral terms for things that have historically been so so ingrained in gendering everything.
@liaizon oh, I have a lot to say about gendered language. Luckily some activists are trying gender neutral pronouns for Arabic and I've been using them.
@wardi I would love to hear more about this sometime
