Michael Gemar@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon @moliver In the context of the culture, a brother marrying their brother’s widow and producing a child was the norm. What Onan was killed for was being selfish, having sex with the widow but refusing to give her a child (and thus status in the tribe).
And no, none of that makes sense if applied to our own culture.

The whole thing is messed up. Dad gets Onan's brother Er a wife - like she's a cow or something. Then Er gets whacked because God doesn't like him, and Onan is expected to get with this leftover cow that his dad got for his dead brother AND have a child that these nutjobs are going to claim is Onan's dead brother's child, not his, which has to be related to some twisted first born son patriarchal bullshit.
