[Meta] There is a typo in this community name, need to move over to [email protected] - sh.itjust.works

I accidentally created this community as !buytiforlife, instead of !buyitforlife I have now created a new community with the correct name, and encourage everyone to move over there instead. /c/[email protected] [/c/[email protected]] (https://sh.itjust.works/c/buyitforlife [https://sh.itjust.works/c/buyitforlife]) Once you create a community, the name can’t be changed, so this was the only option I think. I will be deleting this community soon, to avoid any confusion. It’s a shame because we got 2k subscribers and many great posts in these first weeks. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to spread the word and make sure everyone finds the new community. I think having the correct name will help the longevity of the community, but will hurt in the short term as we lose people in the migration. Also, I’m just someone who wanted to make sure one of my favourite communities existed here on Lemmy. Clearly I’m not great at this. I’d happy to appoint others as mods who are interested.

Am I crazy or I am not seeing th typo in the name?
It is in the url /c/buytiforlife
Communities also have a separate display name, which is correct: BuyItForLife. The display name can also be edited after community creation, but the actual name that determines the url cannot be changed.
I did not know about display names
I do wish this wasn't the case. It easily allows for abuse and makes it harder to identify a community in the post metadata, especially on mobile.
Have you attempted to see if @ernest can change the magazine name first? He may be able to change it on the backend.
This is a Lemmy instance 😊. This isn't kbin.
Ope! You're totally right, I thought sh.itjust.works was a kbin instance. My mistake.
Even if it was Ernest wouldn't be the expected admin I don't think
Are you going to copy the posts to the new community?
I would like to, but don't know a great way to do this and include all the comments.
I guess I can make crossposts for all the existing post so far? That might be the best option.
Sounds good. Perhaps have a pinned post directing people to the new community and not allow new posts in the original.
I love having it with the typo, it adds character!
Hard agree. The typo’d community is way better!
I subscribed tot his instance specifically for the discussion of quality titanium products and now you're closing the magazine? Back to reddit I go.
