Refashioning fast fashion! Why?
1. I own it since 2013 (when 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target collection was released.)
2. I LOVE the cut. Haven’t seen anything else that fit me this great, especially around the shoulders.
3. I’m skilled enough to make the alterations I want.

For now, I’m marking the changes and pinning the added pieces with temporary fabrics.
No way I’m letting this one go to landfill; it’s going to be fantastic!

#refashioning #sewing @sewing

@sewing also,

4. The fabric has a nice touch with decent material mix (65% cotton, 35% nylon).

5. It’s well made. Wishing a kinder future for garment workers whose skills are grossly undervalued.

@sewing now it’s time the cut the actual fabric pieces that are going to be added to the hemline. This is a #pointofnoreturn 😱 #sewing

@sewing the hem extension cutting and sewing process is going well so far! A few adjustments to make on the curve around center front, but nothing complicated 😮‍💨

#sewing #refashioning #nonewclothes

@sewing the hemline is officially extended! 🎉

Still lots of finishing to be done, plus alterations to the armholes / sleeves and neckline. But it’s looking great, and the project is moving forward!

Check the thread if you’re confused what this project is about 😁 #sewing #repurposing #refashioning #textileartist

@sewing the new hemline is finished ✅
Next is the under arm gusset inserts and sleeve fullness adjustment 🧐

Reusing the scraps to their maximum potentials 🪡

#refashion #reuse #sewing #sewingproject

@sewing the sides are neatly finished ✅

Last and certainly not least, the neckline adjustment. Adding 0.5” “drop” on the center front so I don’t choke myself when I wear this pretty dress. 🧐

@sewing it’s done! ✅

Redo collar pieces and finish neckline ✔️
Check overall garment balance and proportions ✔️
Cut loose thread trails ✔️
Wash and iron garment ✔️
Take pics to document and share 💕

I can’t wait to wear it regularly again 🤩

@sewing if you want to see me talking to myself before starting this refashioning project, check out my latest IG reel!

Episode 1 of 2 of a new short video series “Refashion, Please!” 😁

Mira Musank / Fafafoom.com on Instagram: "Someone called me a “refashioning specialist” the other day, and they’re not wrong 🤣 I love refashioning, especially now that I’m finally accumulating the necessary skills to make the alterations that I want. Indeed, the most sustainable fashion is already in our wardrobe! Enjoy Episode 1 of 2 from this new mini series “Refashion, Please!” It’s a little embarrassing, but yes I do talk to myself a lot when I work on textile-related projects. Consider this dramatization a condensed version of how I go through a refashioning process. I’m curious about whether you like this kind of content, so do let me know! 😄 . . . #refashionplease #sustainability #reducereuserepair #refashion #diyfashion #sewistsofinstagram #sewersgonnasew #fiberartist #climateart #philliplimfortarget #bayareasewists #slowfashion #sewingismysuperpower #sewingismytherapy #sewaholic"

@sewing the conclusion! Aside from what you have already seen from my thread here, you’ll see more footage and the ways I style the refashioned (reborn?) dress.

@miramusank @sewing OMG, Mira, it’s so beautiful!
@jquillin thank you, Jessica! I really feel like it has FINALLY “arrived” in my life, you know? It’s a hard yet beautiful feeling to explain.
@miramusank I totally get it. Thank you as always for being so open with your art and process.
@miramusank @sewing It's so beautiful. 💖💕💝😍 But you already know how much I 😍 it. 😄
@miramusank @sewing This is great content!
@jquillin thank you! Coming from you, that means a lot 😄
@miramusank @sewing ahhhhh, I love it! <3
@poorasfolk thank you! I love it so much, too 🤩
@miramusank @sewing It's beautiful 💖🥰
@summeremacs thank you! Next up, wearing it. And wearing it often 💕
@miramusank @sewing
Although not as flowing in terms of material, I am getting sligtht Hanae Mori vibes from this dress. It is lovely.
@KDramaQn oh yeah, I can see that 😍 You are correct, the fabric isn’t flowy. It has a good structure and drapes well, which makes it a delight to work with in this project.
@miramusank @sewing It’s looking so beautiful!
@jquillin it’s almost done and I’m so excited 😄
@miramusank I can’t wait to see the final product!
@miramusank @sewing
I am a bit late to this, but I am so curious as to what, if any, issues you are correcting with the refashioning?
@CynthiaA three specific issues: hemline (too short), armpit and sleeves (too tight), and neckline (choking if buttoned / zipped all the way).
@miramusank ahh brillant that you can address these issues! I have a few pieces, including an Oscar de la Renta dress, which I am praying some sugar/wine detoxing will get me back into or else I will need to let them go. If only refashioning was an option for me!
@CynthiaA um, you have me! I can take a look and give you recommendations 💕
@miramusank @sewing I'm just dying to see what it looks like when it's all done! 💖
@summeremacs aside from the new hemline, it won’t look too different from the original. But it will fit sooo much better!
@miramusank I’m just waiting to see it on display. 🙃 BTW I said it before but I absolutely love that cut and everything about it.
@summeremacs honestly, I have other priorities throughout the day but I helplessly find myself walking into the sewing room frequently, finding some excuse of a menial task to do just so I can stare and inspect the dress more 🤣
@miramusank 🤣 I’m the same way with a lot of my own personal projects too!
@miramusank @sewing Looking incredible! I love this re-use approach!
@jquillin thank you! It’s the closest thing I get to implement garment-to-garment recycling in my own small way. 😁
