The story of the internet is never let the money guys in

And the story of music, art etc, etc ;)

So the Medici were also a negative influence on art? Or were they a different kind of money guys?
@wolf480pl @lps @ethanschoonover @JRepin I mean, they funded a lot of great art, but they also funded an unreasonable number of paintings that had Medicis in them. I kind of get the feeling we probably could have come up with a better way of funding brilliant renaissance art
@wolf480pl @lps @ethanschoonover @JRepin like, imagine the best and brightest artists of our time being forced to constantly paint portraits of Elon Musk or put Jeff Bezos in every crowd scene in order to be able to create their groundbreaking new work

yeah... I think renaissance artists didn't have much problem with that

@wolf480pl @lps @ethanschoonover @JRepin Yes, I'm sure the fact that youtubers are literally forced to shill for scammy companies in order to afford to eat can be taken as evidence that they are all happy and highly enthusiastic about their business relationship with the companies they are advertising, and likewise that renaissance artists had no problem whatsoever with the fact that their creative freedom depended on the largesse of wealth-hoarding dildos

@XauriEL @lps @ethanschoonover @JRepin
I think "literally forced" is an exaggeration - I'd expect that most youtubers had other career options, and *chose* youtube as a preferable one.

Also, some of them (eg. Tom Scott) are in a position where they can choose which companies they run ads for.

Also, if we can't come up with a better way to fund youtubers today, I highly doubt our ancestors could've come up with a better way to fund painters and especially architects back then.
