Ok just putting this out there into the universe to see if it helps. I need a new career direction, but it can't happen overnight. I can't just get a job and say to my existing clients "bye, cya, it's all on you now", so I need a project or two to ease into things and see if it's something I'd like to do, and can make a difference with.

Even in the long term I know I'm not one to have a "job", I want to continue working in my own business, and working with companies that have similar values to me.

Ideally I want to be engaged with executives of small to medium businesses to help them through their journey in building software solutions in a secure and reliable way. Or helping executives in small to medium business with their data privacy and security needs.

Now that's the longer term goal. In the meantime I may want or need to do some projects as part of a bigger team in a bigger company. I have all of the certifications for "teh cyberz" but not much practical experience doing infosec tasks specifically.

I have never been the person who "fit" with recruiters, as I didn't have a linear career path, and that is OK. I am very grateful that all of my work in the past 14 years has been through word of mouth, and Twitter connections. Hopefully I can continue like this.

My work philosophy in that time is "all I can do is to do good work and hope that people will pay me at the end of the month, and continue next month". It has worked nicely.

I just need to move on from "doing the doing" to more "doing the talking", or advice and direction. I don't need to do the actual building and maintenance of software anymore, hopefully.
