Retoot if you are Team Orca!
@DEGL_TOONS @wackJackle When nature strikes back like a toxic white male ... ;-)
@DEGL_TOONS The Swarm was a prophecy?
@timoka or "ORCA" from 1977
@DEGL_TOONS @timoka that was such a bad movie. I didn’t know it was prophetic, though.

@DEGL_TOONS I'm hung up on "Straight of Gibraltr" in all honesty.

But the orcas are 100% good in my book, leave the yacht people adrift.

@DEGL_TOONS I’ not team billionnaires
@DEGL_TOONS Must not have been much of a 'yacht' if killer whales could make it act like a 'rag doll'. Yacht Fifth Class, maybe. Go orcas!
@jurann @DEGL_TOONS yeah these are the inexpensive sailboats of hobbyists, potentially the homes of casual laborers who can afford dock fees but not city rent. Billionaire yachts are way armoured beyond orcas' firepower.

@dragonfrog @jurann the pictures I have seen so far are of very new looking luxury sailing yachts. Something you would not buy to live in and can't afford if you aren't very wealthy, I guess.

Maybe that's not all attacks, but all I am aware of.

@DEGL_TOONS @dragonfrog @jurann as a sailor I've been following this situation for a long time, and it's mostly regular people/families who used their life savings to buy a boat and equip it for a longer trip, usaually to cross the Atlantic and back. They often have kids on board, so these attacks are not "funny" and against the patriarchy...

@espenhogbakk @dragonfrog @jurann
People spend their life savings in endevours that risk the lifes of themselves and their kids by crossing a damn ocean and sailing into the home turfs of dangerous animals for fun.

I see multiple problems here and not one is the fault of an Cetacean.

@DEGL_TOONS @dragonfrog @jurann you could also look at it as people are travelling in an eco friendly way to live in and learn about different cultures. The ocean crossing is usually not the goal itself, it's the places you visit on each side of the ocean... I did not blame the orcas, I just wanted to highlight that it's not the super yachts that are affected by this.
@DEGL_TOONS @dragonfrog @jurann not any more dangerous than driving a car through Europe, but that's okay I guess?
@dragonfrog @jurann also we should help em to aim for the huge super yachts you are talking about. Get the spermwhales on board.
Killer Whales Toss Yacht Around Like 'Rag Doll' In 20th Orca Attack In A Month

The waters around the Straight of Gibraltar have been the site of dozens of attacks.

Jalopnik

@DEGL_TOONS See… this is the sort of show I want streaming companies to make.

Free Willie is back… and he’s hunting the patriarchy.

@dreamwinder boy do I have the movie for you
Study: Humans cause more orca deaths than previously understood

Researchers say the decline in resident killer whale populations along the West Coast is due not only to various long-term human influences, but to direct human-caused harm, as well.

Some scientists predict that 2023 could be the warmest year on record, as a developing El Niño exacerbates the impacts of the climate crisis.

Common Dreams
@Sonikku @DEGL_TOONS @BlackAzizAnansi Now I want another season of 'the X-Files' based on Mulder making dad jokes around every instance of the monster of the week.

@DEGL_TOONS

They're fighting for their existence. #TeamOrca

@DEGL_TOONS
Maybe the yachting public should figure out where the Orca breeding and birthing waters are and steer clear? That'd be my 2¢.
@muthanight @DEGL_TOONS
Maybe the Orcas are finally tired of our shit. The pollution, seabed, environmental, water quality and fish stock destruction. The fact half the plastic in the sea is fishing nets. Meanwhile we focus on fucking around with straws etc etc.

Just a thought.
@ArtBear @muthanight as far as i know, the working theory of marine biologists is that there was a orca hurt and/or traumatized by a yacht and they said their school "fuck em boats".
@DEGL_TOONS Orcas are tired of humanity’s shit. Can’t blame them. Me too.

@DEGL_TOONS
This behaviour by these orcas may result in their deaths by commercial fishermen shooting them.

I think this should not happen, but if commercial interests become threatened then I suspect it will happen.

I'm seeing a potential tragedy.

@DEGL_TOONS The revolution has begun. Follow the orcas!
@DEGL_TOONS can they attack private planes, too? #TeamOrca
@DEGL_TOONS "The solution to pollution is dilution in the ocean." MAYBE NOT
@DEGL_TOONS yeah, but I'd be wary of a report that can't spell "strait of Gibraltar".
