Where's everybody from? - Blåhaj Lemmy

Just curious how spread out we are. I’m up in West Yorkshire myself. (Please remember that anything you post on the Fediverse might stay on other instances forever, even if you delete it from yours. I’d recommend you not get any more specific than county or local authority level.)

I'm up in Wigan - always feels like on the internet everyone is in London or down south!
I'm so sorry to hear you're in Wigan. Get well soon. /joke

Haha to be honest I actually quite like it, the cost of living is low, I can get to everything I need by walking/cycling/bus/train (don't drive by choice), so I can't really complain!

I also lived in York for a little bit and that was really nice, albeit somewhat expensive, so I had to move back.

York is an absolutely lovely place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Too crowded for me.
East Yorkshire.
Image transcription: A mock-up of the Google search engine. The user has searched for "East Yorkshire". The site responds "Did you mean: East Riding of Yorkshire?"
Sunny Manchester

Not so sunny now!

If you're interested in a Manchester based group, btw, I've set one up at [email protected]

Discussion for things in or about Greater Manchester!

West Yorks as well.
Teesside-ish. Our counties got so messed up around here nobody is really quite sure which one anyone is in.
Oh yeah! I believe it's officially known as Tees Valley without actually being a valley?
That too! Whoever is in charge is obviously mad.
Suffolk. Detectorists country.
The Detectorists is incredible. It's my go to comfort watch.
Same. I love that show.
It makes me cry, in a nice way
Me too lol. Like, this is so wholesome and cosy I’m going to cry now.
I'm from Canada but moving to London in a month!
Pre-emptive welcome!
In which case, please allow me to pre-emptively welcome you to the UK! I hope you enjoy your time here. :)
Directly above the centre of the Earth.
…take my upvote and get out of here.
Very kind, old bean. btw, West London originally, now tropical north Australia.
How are you enjoying the summer? /joke
In the tropics we only have two seasons, wet and dry. These are basically summer and winter. Winter, the good season, started a month or so ago but we're still getting summer rain. In short, it's cold, wet and cloudy so just like home in the UK.

Hertfordshire, in the Chilterns

Home counties represent!

Snorbins checking in.
North Londoner here.

I am in South Yorkshire, I'm originally from Essex
I'm down here in Devon.

Prynhawn Da from South Wales 👋
I'm ashamed to say the only words I know in Welsh are "Bore da" and I'm not entirely sure how to spell them. Thanks for reminding me that I should learn. :)
That about covers the extent of my knowledge too tbh, that and "Croeso". I do plan on learning eventually...
The only one I know is Gwasanaethau because it means Services and I've seen it on the M4 so often
Melbourne, Australia
Ah yes, my favourite European country. They must be, they compete in the Eurovision after all. And usually with a better song than us. :)
ahahahahaha i think the thing is Australia does have European immigration so I guess that lets us into Eurovision?
Really? I thought it was just that the Aussies loved to watch Eurovision from the peanut gallery, then asked if they could come and play, and we collectively said yes we'd love to have you. :)

As a self-certified Eurovision fanatic I feel qualified to butt in here.

That's basically what happened, yes. Eurovision is open to all members of the European Broadcasting Union, and Australia became associate members by special arrangement. The EBU membership rather than a requirement to be in actual geographical Europe is also how we've had various other countries like Israel or even Morocco in past contests.

Today I learned! Thank you. :)
thanks for the info :)
I was born in Belfast.
Wyoming ... shire.
How on earth did you end up in !UKCasual? Not a criticism or anything, I'm just curious. :)
Y'all are at the top of all right now on kbin. -coming from the northern territory of King Charles the first (North Carolina)

Y’all are at the top of all right now on kbin

Woohoo! Hello everyone

Usually people ask me how the hell I ended up in Wyoming, which is also a fair question. But, as 1st mentioned, you were on the front page.

Hahaha, reading through the comments, I was like, am I in a Brit-only sub.

New Mexistan here.

"Am I in a Brit-only sub?" - yes, welcome
We're Brit-based not Brit-only 🙂
