While it's cool to see #kbin and #lemmy help bring the #fediverse up to the SOTA web of 2005, what I really need is #fedivine to move us to 2013 in the timeline and jumpstart #feditok. Any options?
@drimplausible Well there is #peertube (about which I know nothing except that it exists) — @peertube
@richardgrant @peertube It might be a start, but I've found #youtube and #tiktok to be radically different things, despite the superficial similarity of "video". Even YT Shorts doesn't fit that niche. Turns out Duration and Interface matters lots in terms of comms, so a #fedivine might be an effective (and more achievable) target.
@drimplausible @peertube I agree! I still miss #Vine and especially #BlackVine. It would be so nice to recapture some of that energy in the #fediverse

@drimplausible @richardgrant @peertube

Yeah, I have a peertube instance and it's great at what it does but what it does is not tiktok.

It doesn't even really handle vertical video very well.

But more importantly tiktok is about the recommendation algorithm isn't it? In theory at least, though maybe "the algorithm" just turns out to be a warehouse of poorly paid editors.

I've heard people suggesting a fedi tik-tok and how you could do a personalized recommendation algorithm in a decentralized way without violating privacy but never of one actually existing.

Sounds horrifying to me. Think I might be too old for tiktok.
