One of the perks of being on open source software is that we could make our own star trek theme for startrek.website! - Star Trek: Website

Who is inspired to make an LCARS theme for this sub?? One of the wonderful things about lemmy/free and open source software like this is that nobody would be forced to use an LCARS theme, under settings a user can change what theme they want lemmy to display in. So… really we can go all out here! I provided a link to some lemmy themes to give people an idea of the possibilities. (I am not an admin or anything here, of course the people running startrek.website would need to agree to install the theme on the server side but I figured I would throw the idea out there!)

Given that one of the reasons for migrating here was Reddit’s disregard of an disrespect towards persons with disabilities, perhaps it would be important to offer some (more than one) Star Trek custom theme that meets the needs of people with different accessibility issues.

While I know many Berman-era fans love LCARS, and it was innovative for its time, it’s really not at all accessibility informed.

Not to mention, that options for the board should be welcoming of fans of all eras, not just the 90s.

I wanted to clarify that the theme you select is tied to your user. While the site admin can set a default theme, you can go into your user settings and set whatever theme you prefer which overrides the default theme. Also, I don’t advocate the site should default to any one series specific theme, but stick with a generic one.

So one could set LCARS as their theme, or Picard, or SNW, or Discovery, and it would have no bearing on how others see the site. Of course someone needs to create all those themes, and the site admin needs to install them to make them available to everyone.

This does bring up a valid point about accessibility. Someone should definitely create some themes focused on accessibility.

The tricky bit will be a TOS theme, with all those physical switches and buttons and knobs.
Someone with better CSS/UI skills than me will do it, and it will be fabulous! Just wait and see.
